Alejandro Muguerza and the Art of Hospitality
Le Basque Founder, Alejandro Muguerza, featured in Spend In Lifestyle (Spend In Lifestyle, October 2016)
Originally featured in Spend In Lifestyle, this piece explores the background and creative perspective of Alejandro Muguerza, founder of Le Basque, and the philosophy that continues to shape the company’s approach to hospitality and event design.
Trained initially as a lawyer, Alejandro’s path eventually moved beyond the legal world and into a broader creative discipline informed by travel, architecture, art, and entertaining. Time spent living and working in London, New York, and throughout Europe helped shape a perspective that approaches events not simply as gatherings, but as fully imagined environments.
In the feature, Alejandro describes each event as something first drawn and envisioned before it is ever built—an experience developed collaboratively with the client and carefully constructed from the ground up. The process is both conceptual and practical, balancing atmosphere, movement, design, food, and guest experience into something cohesive and highly personal.
While Le Basque was originally rooted in Basque cuisine, the company gradually evolved into a more expansive hospitality and production studio. Over time, the work became less about adhering to a singular culinary identity and more about creating complete experiences where food, environment, architecture, and structure work together seamlessly.
At the center of that philosophy is adaptation. No two events are approached the same way. Each project responds to its setting, its audience, and its moment—avoiding formula in favor of something more thoughtful, immersive, and enduring.
